Binding Resins

ST1 Epoxy Resin

A specially developed solvent free epoxy resin and amine hardener system. With a low viscosity this resin/ hardener mix is suitable as a binding resin for stone and sand screeds and can be used for priming rough or absorbent surfaces. This system has a very long working time of 40–50 mins approximately at the height of summer whilst still achieving a hardness suitable for applying top coats the following day. Additional advantages of this resin include its use for machine laying. This particular resin also has high adhesive qualities enabling the resin to be used in coving applications without the need for specially thickend mixes. Furthermore it is user friendly and significantly reduces the risks of allergic reations. It also imparts a gloss finish to stone screeds which is particularly important where marble is used. (S) prefix summer hardener or (W) prefix winter hardener.

A270/ A300 Amine Hardeners

Suitable as an A component for ST1 resins only. Both these hardeners exhibit vast improvements in resistance to UV which has been a common fault with epoxy systems. Furthermore these hardeners impart a flexibility to the system seldom found in amine hardeners. Although these hardeners appear more expensive per kg they do actually work out more economical because of the low mix ratios i.e. 1000grams of resin : 300 grams of A300 hardener which is a 40% saving on the hardener for stone and even more savings on sand screeds. Hardeners are always the most expensive component of any epoxy system. The lower viscosity of these hardeners enables easier and faster laying. As the viscosity of each hardener is different we recommend the following:

Stone CarpetA300 Hardener
Sand ScreedsA270 Hardener

Kits can be supplied to increase the strength of sand screeds on request we would recommend at least 12% for light commercial, 15% heavy commercial/light industrial and 17% Heavy industrial.

Polyflex Exterior Binding Resin UV Resistant Polyurethane

A UV stable polyurethane 2 component binding resin suitable for external stone carpets and internally where strong UV is present. This binder makes a strong screed, 50 – 55 shore which still retains a degree of flexibility. This binding resin stands head and shoulders above the competition by its superior hardness

Ex–bind Exterior Binding Resin Non–UV Resistant Polyurethane

A 2 component Polyurethane binding resin which is none UV resistant. Some discolouration is likely to occur . This product is best be suited brown, yellow or darker coloured aggregates. For very light coloured stone use our UV stable Polyflex.

Binding Resing Single Component (Vertical Surfaces)

This single component resin is suitable as a primer and binding resin for stone carpet screeds. It enables the screed to be applied to walls without sagging. Use is 3.75kg to 25kg 2–3mm aggregate.

Touchstone Thixotropic Two Component Epoxy Resin (Vertical Surfaces)

This Touchstone thickened epoxy resin is suitable, with the appropriate B component hardener, for priming vertical coved skirtings and as a binding resin for coved skirtings. It can also be used with the appropriate hardener and filling material as a fine filler for cracks etc. It can be made more or less flexible as required.

Touchstone Filler & Top Coats

Touchstone Fillercoat One

Touchstone filler coat systems are designed for quartz stone carpets in the following stone sizes 1–3mm, 2–3mm and 3–4mm ( It is also possible to fill 4–6mm if the humidity is low and temperature above 20ºc ). Fillercoat 1 has a low viscosity and is applied with a soft rubber squeegee. This specially developed filler coat is very water resistant but not water proof. If water is allowed to stand on the cured top coat eventually it will turn milky but once allowed to dry again the milkyness should disappear. Although this filler coat should dry c lear and hard in 24 hours full cure and water resistance does not take place for around 5 days depending on humidity and temperature. Damp rising from under the stone carpet will cause continual milkyness. This product is not suitable for external work. Useage is 500 grams per sq mtr 1–2mm stone, 750 grams per sq mtr 2–3mm stone, 900grams per sq mtr 3–4mm stone.

Touchstone Topcoat PU

Suitable for Touchstone stone carpets. Ideally use this polish once the floor has been filler coated and has dried. 10–15% water can be added to the PU polish as required. PU polish is light resistant and is also suitable as a thin protection coat for open structured quartz stone floors without a filler coat. Use is 100–125g per m2.

Touchstone Topcoat E

Touchstone top coat E is a solvent free thixotropic resin. It is suitable for top coating sand screeds. Using two, wet on wet, coats squeegee and roll applied(polyester roller) in the same day. The result is a smooth, hammered effect top coat. The amine hardener we especially developed to resist water spotting at an early curing stage and to enable application of the second coat after 1.5–2 hours. See our Matt coating which gives the perfect flat slip resistant finish. Use is 400–500 grams per square metre depending on the seive size of sand used.

Touchstone XP Epoxy Matt Coating

This Touchstone matt coat is a water based epoxy dispersion in two components. It is suitable for final coats on all touchstone coatings and self–smoothers and sand screeds. It is very low odour and has excellent flow properties. Roll stripes are virtually eliminated due to its excellent flow properties. This product can also be spray applied for a guaranteed even matt finish. This product has, as far as epoxies are concerned, a good resistance to UV yellowing. The price of the product is further reduced because it can be diluted with water by approximately 25%. This should be taken into account when pricing A long working time of one hour ensures speedy application. The matt finish serves to create a very flat finish on uneven substrates where self smoothing coatings have been applied. Further more it provides a very effective means of camouflaging trowel marks in polymer screeds. Use is on average 100–125 grams per square metre.

Touchstone Polyerethane UV Stable Matt Coat PU85

This specially developed, two component, UV stable/blocking matt coat can be usedinternally and externally on virtually every polymer floor including cement and wood substrates. It has good resistance to scratching, wear and compared to other similar products exhibits little or no foaming on application. Flexability is good making this product especially suitable for our PU soft touch poured vinyl floor range. Application is easy because of the long potlife and low viscosity. We would not recomend this product be specified where wet tyres are to be used. This product can be stored in airtight containers for upto 6 months. Use should be 100–125 grams per square

Touchstone Primers

Touchstone GW Etch Primer

Touchstone etch primer is an epoxy dispersion in water. It is supplied with both componets A & B in the ratio of 1:1. It is very concentrated and can be diluted using between 50–100% water . This type of etch primer is suitable for most smooth/gloss substrates for example ceramic tiles, epoxy or polyurethane, steel etc. This product has a medium resistance to uv.

Touchstone Flexible Primer

This touchstone high viscosity (thickened) polyurethane membrane (Silencio) has been specially developed for preparing wooden floors for epoxy stone carpets and sand screeds. This substrate preparation will as far as possible eliminate the possibity of cracking in the topping. Apply in two coats. Use 1kg per square metre minimum.

Touchstone Universal Primer

This very economic single component primer is suitable where fast drying is important it is possible to dilute this product with water where necessary . It has a long shelf life in airtight containers and is low odour. This primer is suitable for areas receiving foot traffic such as domestic and light commercial floors. It should not be used where the substrate has a high relative humidity or with a floor that is likely to be continually wet.

Touchstone GP Epoxy Primer

A non reactive solvent free epoxy primer suitable for priming rough or absorbent substrates prior to appying other resin floor finishes. Self smoothers (SL) floor finishes would require at least 2 coats of this product to ensure a porous free primer finish before application of further coatings. It would aslo be possible to apply a first coat of GW etch primer to increase adhesion.

Epoxy Self–smoothing Coatings

Touchstone Epoxy Self–smoothing Coating (Thick Coat)

Touchstone self smoother (previously known as a self–leveller) is a three component solvent free epoxy system with resin, hardener and powder filler components. It is very easy to apply and has remarkable flow properties. So much so that it is possible to apply this self smoother without a pike roller in 95% of cases. However there are a number of exceptions. If the self–smoother is not releasing air of its own accord ie small air bubbles cannot be seen then, we would advise spike rolling. Further more if rake or trowel marks are not flowing away then it is advisable to spike roll. Always put a scrape layer on if the substrate is very absorbent or eneven. As with all chemical products the condition of the substrate and surrounding environmental factors must be taken into consideration at the time of application. Various broadcast mediums are available including anti–slip and decorative coloured flakes. Once flakes are broadcast during application the Touchstone matt coat can be used to complete an excetionally decorative thin layer terrazzo effect. These prices only apply to our standard range of colours which are listed in our sample cases and in the following Ral list. All other Ral colours will attract an extra cost due to higher pigment costs. Minimum use of this product is 3 kg per square metre.

Polyurethane Self–smoothing Coatings

Please note all Polyurethane coatings and self smoothers need a suitable primer before a scratch or body coat is applied. This gives the required adhesion and seals against any unfavourable reactions between the substrate and the coating. Touchstone is able to offer varying degrees of hardness to suit differing applications. We offer the following hardness ranges. All our PU coatings require a final matt coating.

Touchstone PU Scratchcoat (Non–UV Resistant)

This versatile scratch coat is ideal as an underlayment for both our PU self smoothing ranges. It can also be used as a flexible membrane under sand or stone screeds. This product has a hardness dependent on its final use .For a economic finish in lighter use areas the Touchstone scratch coat can be applied at 3.5–4 kg/m2 and finished with a UV resistant coloured coating see above.

Touchstone PU (Industrial) Self–smoothing Coating (Non–UV Resistant)

This hard scratch resistant self smoothing ( sl) coating is ideal for industrial environments. It has been specially developed to withstand industrial loadings and is scratch and wear resistant. Touchstone Polyurethane coatings have a number of advantages over other PU and epoxy coatings offered by other manufacturers. Our self smoothing coatings do not require spike rolling thus saving both time and money. We are able to offer over 40 standard colours. Other well known advantages of polyurethane coatings include its ability to bridge cracking in the substrate and its superior wear resistance. The usage is between 3.5kg – 4kg ( 2mm approx) per square metre. Hardness D60 or D45.
